    Knee replacement surgery

Hi Lizzie2 Thanks for getting back with the info on putting my prosthetic leg on. I am managing at the moment by sitting on the edge of a chair and putting it on but doesn't fit the same. I have managed to get around a little and it is getting a little easier. I think it is going to be a long process though as I have found out I need 2 hip replacements as well !!

    Knee replacement surgery

Hi cherylm Thanks for the info. I will keep an eye out. The knee replacement surgery went ok There was, and still is, a lot of swelling which makes the knee very stiff, quite a bit of pain and it is really hard to get my leg in a comfortable position. Having said that it is only 2 weeks since my surgery so I suppose it is to be expected. My problem is trying to get my prosthetic leg on sitting down as I haven't got to put my full weight through it yet. If your friend isn't an amputee and is reasonably active, he shouldn't be too bad. Tell him to keep up to speed with his painkillers and always have the ice packs nearby, they are very useful.

    Amputee fraud in the UK

Grum Couldn't agree with you more m8. Your post sums my position up to a T. I thought a change of limb centres after a good few years might even be worth a try, but I'm now thinking I have jumped out of the frying pan into the fire.
  5. oneblueleg Thats a nice saving on the price i paid.
  6. Tint I bought one 3 months ago which cost me 480 pounds. Not quite as much as you had heard but still a rip off.

    MAS Socket - My journal

Ally Don't be too downhearted. If your prosthetist is very patient and both of you are willing to persevere you will get there in the end and it will be worth all the effort. It took 7 test sockets to get mine right as I had a lot of atrophy due to wearing my old leg for 20 years. Cheers Micky

    Flexible socket

Hi Ally Sorry I haven't posted for a while but I am not the greatest of letter writers but I will certainly answer any questions regarding the MAS socket anyone may have. I am going very well with my socket, certainly NO sweating, no sore spots and never had a blister. Comfort is still out of this world, the difference is just unbeleivable. I wear it for 12 to 14 hours a day and no problems when I take it off. As regards wearing jeans my wife says that they hang a lot better and don't appear to be wearing anywhere as before with the old leg. There is no comparision to my old quadrilateral socket and this new MAS socket with regards to comfort and mobility. I must stress though that I did have it fitted in Mexico by Marlo himself. Cheers

    Flexible socket

Hi, like you Ally I have had a quad socket for 29 years was never aware of or knew of any other alternative until finding this site 8 months ago. Since then I have done some research and was amazed at what was available. Without going on too much, after having a conversation with Mr Ortiz, my wife and myself have just got back from mexico having been fitted with a MAS socket and the difference is just unbelievable. It has taken a couple of weeks to get used to the change but the things I can now do I could never have envisaged. All I wanted was a comfortable socket and to be free from pain and discomfort and he certainly acheived that. :)
