    Hip desarticulation - Pregnance

Hi,I am a above the knee right leg amputee and have been since I was 6. I have very little stump at all. I have 3 kids, had no real problems with any of my pregnancies. I delivered all about 3 weeks early but it wasn't due to my leg being gone. What are your questions? I would be glad to share my expieriences.

    Anyone who don't wear prothesis?

    Thanks for the advice!
  3. Hi, I am a right leg above the knee amputee and have been since I was 6. I have never realy worn a leg. I walk with crutches. Legs are painful for me. But, I have recently been told I have osteoarthritis in my only knee. This has made me wonder how much prothetics may have changed. I really need to take the stress off my arms and my only leg. The crutches have destroyed my hands, shoulders and wrist. And I have problems with my hip and ankle and now my knee is really bad. My question is do any of you wear a leg for atleast 4 or 5 hours a day and have graphed skin and no muscle and really no stump, just a small bit of bone with graphed skin, with no pain or atleast with tolerable pain? If so what kind of leg and socket do you use? Did you have a specialist make it or what?? I feel like for someone who has been a amputee her whole life I am very uneducated about my options for a prothesis. I haven't had a leg made since I was 16. Thanks for any advice! Oh and I am on Medicare.

Hello again, and Thanks for the welcome! I definately do have osteoarthritis, I have had X rays and a mri. I have never been able to wear a leg because I have graphed skin and very little muscle. I don't have much of my leg left at all. I get alot of friction inside the socket and it causes sores. Also noone has ever been able to make a belt that don't go under my ribs and cause brusing, because of my gait, I guess. Never have tried any other kind of crutches I have just been on this kind since I was 6 so I am so use to them Im not sure how to change to something new, it seems awkward to walk with other kinds. I do have problems with my shoulders, wrist, and hands from walking for so long with crutches. I also have problems with my ankle but the ortho I have been seeing don't seem concerned, he just said by a arch support from Wal mart. I know there is no real cure for arthritis but noone has really given me any treatment that has helped. Also I have never had any pain, just weakness in my knee, until I stood up in my bedroom a couple of months ago and heard a loud snap. I couldn't walk for atleast a week and then when I see the Dr. he told me I have arthritis. To me it is just strange how I injured my knee and then suddenly it is arthritis. He said I have no injury. Hope to chat soon!

Hello, I am new to this forum and wanted to tell you all a little about myself. I am 32 years old I am a right leg above the knee amputee and have been since I was 6 years old. I was in a accident and was ran over by a semi truck. I have never been sucessful using a prothesis. So I use underarm crutches. I am a very pround mom of 3! Two boys 6 and 11, and a duaghter 2 years old. The reason I am coming on this forum is to gain some information on prosthetics and I am also having major problems with my only knee. I have osteoarthritis and it is really hard to get around right now. I have seen a ortho and he has given me Synvisc shots in the knee but it is 2 weeks since shots and no relief yet. Just needing support and guidance! Can't wait to hear your stories too:)
