In my opinion he should accept you for who you are. I have been an upper extremity amputee (whish is impossible to cover up) since I was 18 years old, over 10 years ago. I have never met someone that had a problem with it and never had a problem getting dates. Hope this helps!!!

Basically thats what it is, a big national Treasure Hunt. I love it. I get plently of exercise plus it helps take my mind off all my problems. Its just hard to find time to do it because of 3 jobs plus weight lifting and running on the treadmill every day. :(

    Nerve Cutting!!!

Thanks for all the replies. I'm feeling much better now. I have phantom pain 24 hours a day, sometimes it is unbearable and sometimes I hardly notice it. I have already canceled two appointments to have a revision surgery to have the nerve endings removed. I just can’t bring myself to do it yet. I won’t take medicine for the pain because of my job. Maybe someday when I have more free time I’ll have the revision. Thanks again for all the replies… Lefty

    Nerve Cutting!!!

Has anyone had there nerves cut because they are balling up inside them. My Dr. told me that was my problem. Phantom limb pain getting much worse. :( I have slept a total of 12 hours since Sunday night. I think I have worn my TENS unit out. Not getting any sleep is killing me, Work all day then stay up all night wired up to a TENS unit!!!! All opinions appreciated.

    Unexpected Limb Movement?

As some of you know, I am an upper extremity amputee. Sometimes when I’m just on the verge of going to sleep my arm will unexpectedly jump or twitch. Well, last night my wife and I were lying in bed facing each other as I was just about asleep when it happened. My arm for some reason jumped and I hit her perfectly in the eye. I know she has a black eye this morning. I felt so bad that I done that to her. After her pain subsided she thought it was hilarious. It’s a good thing that I wasn’t wearing my hook. I'm sorry baby!!!

    Becoming Normal Again

Hi Eddie Earlier this year was my 10 year anniversary. I can say things have gotten better over the years, but for me just looking in a mirror is a constant reminder that I’m not like everyone else, which is a blessing and a curse. As a matter of fact, I’m not like most people on this board. I am an upper extremity amputee. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not complaining. I can do almost everything other people can do. I love the way I am and I am very proud to represent amputees. I love showing people what all I can do. Most people are amazed, especially kids they love playing with my hook. But I still have my bad days just like everyone else. I’ve had phantom pain for over 10 years now and that in its self takes a toll on a person. Also this year I ran into my first major act of what I think is discrimination which set me back a long way, but that’s a different story. All in all things have gotten much better, and continue to get better every day. I have accepted the person I have become and I am striving to be a better person every day. And yes winter time is rough on everyone. I hate setting inside with nothing to do in the evenings. I have started staying at work longer so I won’t have to set at home being board. Hopefully things will get better for you also. Hang in there, better days are coming.

    Slushy gurls big day .....

marianne Here on the net is the only place I ever vent about my amputation. It seems like at home and at work everyone comes to me to fix their problems. I just don't feel comfortable showing vulnerability. For some strange reason I feel that if I show that side of me people will think of me as weak and stop coming to me with there problems. I don’t know, it could be a man thing, a pride thing or something else that causes me not to be able to talk with family or friends about my insecurities and fears. It’s just nice to be able to get on here and talk every once in a while. By the way, I myself seen a shrink for 2 years because of my hand amputation, but that has been 10 years ago… p.s. I would love to hear your story.

    Slushy gurls big day .....

Been a long time since I posted here but I thought I should reply to this. I was due for a revision surgery last month but I ended up making up a bunch of excuses and canceling my appointment. My excuses were legitimate but the facts are I was scared!!! I didn’t tell any of my family or firends that i was really scard. They think that I was really too busy at work to take a few days off to have it done. If only I would have talked to someone about how I was feeling I might have been able to go through with it. If I had went through with the surgery I would be healed up by now and back to normal. Oh well, time to schedule another appointment for my revision. Maybe I can go through with it this time. Its just hard to go back under the knife after 10 years. So my advice is to stick in there and be stronger than I was. It will all be over before you know it.

    Phantom Pain

I've been an amputee for 10 years now and still waiting for the phantom pain to go away. So far it seems to get a little worse ever year. :(

    Is there.....

"they should also have amputee section on magazine racks." Not around here. I only see an amputee about 3 times a year and I don't know any of them. I would Probably be the only one buying it, but it would be nice to have a amputee section.

    BEE STINGS!?!?!

A mixture of an ample amount of salt and a little water applied should relieve the pain.

To be or not to be covered....

Johannah, My hooks are much easier to use than my other prosthetic arms. I don't think i have used my prosthetic hand in years, only for a nice apperence in church bet thats all. I do however use a mioelectric Graphler (sp). Its not for heavy lifting or anything of the sort but its nice when doing electrical work. I think i have an arm for every occasion. I mostly wear my Carbon fiber and stainless while i'm at work. I wear my old skin tone and stainless while I riding ATVs or working at home because i don't want to scratch up my Carbon Fiber. I wear my mioelectric Graphler (sp) while doing electrical work or computer repair. I wear my mioelectric hand for a nice appearance in church sometimes. I also have a few more that i experiment with every once in a while.
