Recommended Posts

hello people

i had my operation and i'm now part of the above the knee community

i took a long time away from everything to cope with it all.

i'm still on stubbie prosthetics(the short legs) and wheelchair

but pain free for as far the dystrophia goes!!! :D

the swelling of the stump is going slowly down

so soon i will get fitted for new legs

i will keep you all posted at all my new experiences

glad to be back again!

Hello Patty

I've probably come in since you were here last, I still want to welcome you back. It sounds like you still have some recovery to go through, but it's good news that the swelling is going down and the pain is subsiding. "One day at a time". Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Take care, and God bless.

Hello Patti,

Welcome back to the board.

I too am a bilateral, both are through the knee, or a Knee Disarticulate (Bilateral KD).

I am curious, and I hope you do not mind the question, but where did you last do your rehab?

Did you ever do any rehab in Texas?

Houston Texas?

Ted

Well, my main form of exercise is walking. Either from one place to another, or on my treadmill (though I have been very slack lately).

I used to be quite regular at a gym too, but stopped going once I got the treadmill. When there, I'd use various machines, including the bikes, which could get a little difficult (either the feet would come off the pedals or else I'd bang my prostheses on the pedals during every revolution. )

I enjoyed the weight machines though.

There's alot more I could and should do though. Maybe I'll get my act together soon.

Hi Patty

At the moment I try to do mile long walks everyday. As I'm BK & AK, it uses up lots of energy!

When the weather is warmer, I swim - I try to swim about half a mile three times a week. I mainly do front crawl, with few lengths of back stroke.

I have never been able to ride a bike, as I have joint problems too.

Take care

Lizzie :)
