Cat 2 Report post Posted March 11, 2006 I should add here some info for those here who have no idea of what the Commonwealth Games are all about. This is the equivilant of carrying the olympic torch.
Jim T. 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2006 Congratulations Mel. Things like this just don't "accidentally" happen. One has to "earn it". It doesn't surpise me that you did.
melaussie 2 Report post Posted March 12, 2006 CCCAAATTTT :P Can't do anything sneaky round here and get away with it :P Thanks all so much for your wishes, I'm really proud to have the opportunity to do this. My leg (pardon the pun) of the relay is 450m. Up until yesterday I was packing death that I wouldn't be able to go that far (have never walked that distance in one hit), so I did a bit of a trial run (WALK) and happy to say i made it :D Was planning on training for this but got a bit of a cold last Sunday and have been fighting it off; I'll be relying on the old adrenaline to kick in. I must say that it's getting so close.........I'm so excited it's insane & also nervous as well. No one has dropped it yet and I'd hate to be the first-I'll die. Cat & Ruth have got me more excited than ever-have been trying not to think about it too much. I feel like their my support crew-which is just grouse! I promise a full report the day after-or if we go for bev's - maybe the day after that :P :P Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!
Afet 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2006 No one has dropped it yet and I'd hate to be the first-I'll die. OK, Mel, take a few deeeeeeep breaths (in through your nose and out from your mouth). Now visualise yourself doing the honourable walk. See the crowds cheering beside you. Imagine the smells and sounds around you... The smells and sounds of accomplishment. ;) Now repeat after me: "I am in control of the baton" "The baton is an extension of me" "I AM the baton" Mel, honey, it's all about mind over matter. Take the possibility that you will ever drop it OUT of your mind. It ain't gonna happen. ;) Now relax and go and have a bevvi! B)
Lizzie2 5 Report post Posted March 12, 2006 Congratulations, Mel! :D I hope the opening ceremony is as great as the last Commonwealth Games (in Manchester) and I'm sure your 'leg' will be the best bit! :D Lizzie :)

melaussie 2 Report post Posted March 12, 2006 Cheers Lizzie, it's all looking pretty good. I drove in tonight to see the giant metalic fishes. They are going to look amazing. Each one represents a country in the Commonwealth. Think that there's about 90 of these enormous things moored in the river. Ed could put one in his pond after the Games :D except they're pretty big! It's an incredible buzz-it gives me goose bumps.
