Good tunes, great vibes

Recommended Posts

When we hear this song, we usually just stop and smile at each other...I guess maybe you could call that "our" song?

Satisfied- Darden Smith

If I could love you like Elvis

Elvis back in '62

Hips on fire, full of desire

It wouldn't be good enough for you

And if you could love me like Marilyn

In the Garden back in '63

Singing "Happy Birthday, Baby?"

It wouldn't be good enough for me

'Cause that stuff ain't really real

No matter how good it feels

It's only skin deep and we

Are way beyond that now

Lying with you in the dark

Soul to soul and heart to heart

Baby you and I

Know how to be satisfied

A raindrop falls on the mountain

Slowly rolling to the sea

And it takes time to know what is love, what's a dream

And the difference in between

That other stuff ain't really real

No matter how good it feels

It's only skin deep and we

Are way beyond that now

Lying with you in the dark

Soul to soul and heart to heart

Baby you and I

Know how to be satisfied

Everybody Hurts- REM

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,

When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on.

Don't let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes.

Ditto all that!

Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive- Johnny Mercer

Gather 'round me, everybody

Gather 'round me while I'm preachin'

Feel a sermon comin' on me

The topic will be sin and that's what I'm ag'in'

If you wanna hear my story

The settle back and just sit tight

While I start reviewin'

The attitude of doin' right

You've got to accentuate the positive

Eliminate the negative

And latch on to the affirmative

Don't mess with Mister In-Between

You've got to spread joy up to the maximum

Bring gloom down to the minimum

Have faith or pandemonium's

Liable to walk upon the scene

To illustrate my last remark

Jonah in the whale, Noah in the ark

What did they do just when everything looked so dark?

Man, they said "We'd better accentuate the positive")

"Eliminate the negative"

"And latch on to the affirmative"

Don't mess with Mister In-Between (No!)

Don't mess with Mister In-Between

Ya got to spread joy up to the maximum

Bring gloom down to the minimum

Have faith or pandemonium's

Liable to walk upon the scene

You got to ac (yes, yes) -cent-tchu-ate the positive

Eliminate (yes, yes) the negative

And latch (yes, yes) on to the affirmative

Don't mess with Mister In-Between

No, don't mess with Mister In-Between

"Tears In Heaven" Eric Clapton

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?

Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong and carry on,

'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven.

Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?

Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?

I'll find my way through night and day,

'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven.

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees.

Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please.

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure,

And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven.

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?

Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong and carry on,

'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven.

You'll find out, I REALLY like James Taylor, Cat Stevens, and Bob Marley. Three of the most positive souls I've run across. Here's another great one from James...

Walking Man

Moving in silent desperation

Keeping an eye on the holy land

A hypothetical destination

Say, who is this walking man?

Well, the leaves have come to turning

And the goose has gone to fly

And bridges are for buning

So dont you let that yearning

Pass you by

Walking man, walking man walks

Well, any other man stops and talks

But the walking man walks

Well the frost is on the pumpkin

And the hay is in the barn

An pappys come to rambling on

Stumbling around drunk

Down on the farm

And the walking man walks

Doesnt know nothing at all

Any other man stops and talks

But the walking man walks on by

Walk on by

Most everybodys got seed to sow

It aint always easy for a weed to grow, oh no

So he dont hoe the row for no one

Oh for sure hes always missing

And something is never quite right

Ah, but who would want to listen to you

Kissing his existence good night

Walking man walk on by my door

Well, any other man stops and talks

But not the walking man

Hes the walking man

Born to walk

Walk on walking man

Well now, would he have wings to fly

Would he be free

Golden wings against the sky

Walking man, walk on by

So long, walking man, so long

And another...

Shower the People- James Taylor

You can play the game and you can act out the part

Though you know it wasn't written for you

But tell me, how can you stand there with your broken heart

Ashamed of playing the fool

One thing can lead to another; it doesn't take any sacrifice

Oh, father and mother, sister and brother

if it feels nice, don't think twice

Just shower the people you love with love

Show them the way that you feel

Things are gonna work out fine if you only will

Shower the people you love with love

Show them the way you feel

Things are gonna be much better if you only will

You can run but you cannot hide

This is widely known

And what you plan to do with your foolish pride

When you're all by yourself alone

Once you tell somebody the way that you feel

You can feel it beginning to ease

I think it's true what they say about the squeaky wheel

Always getting the grease.

Better to shower the people you love with love

Show them the way that you feel

Things are gonna be just fine if you only will

Shower the people you love with love

Show them the way that you feel

Things are gonna be much better if you only will

Shower the people you love with love

Show them the way that you feel

You'll feel better right away

Don't take much to do

Sell your pride

They say in every life

They say the rain must fall

Just like pouring rain

Make it rain

Make it rain

Love, love, love is sunshine.

Oh yes

Make it rain

Love, love, love is sunshine

Yeah, all right

Everybody, everybody

Shower the people you love with love

Bang On The Drum- Todd Rundgren

I Don't Want To Work

I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day

I Don't Want To Play

I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day

Ever since I was a tiny boy

I don't want no candy

I don't need no toy

I took a stick and an old coffee can

I bang on that thing 'til I got

Blisters on my hand because

I Don't Want To Work

I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day

I Don't Want To Play

I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day

When I get older they think I'm a fool

The teacher told me I should stay after school

She caught me pounding on the desk with my hands

But my licks was so hot

I made the teacher wanna dance

And that's why

I Don't Want To Work

I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day

I Don't Want To Play

I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day

I Don't Want To Work

I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day

I Don't Want To Play

I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day

Listen to this

Every day when I get home from work

I feel so frustrated

The boss is a jerk

And I get my sticks and go out to the shed

And I pound on that drum like it was the boss's head

Because

I Don't Want To Work

I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day

I Don't Want To Play

I Just Want To Bang On The Gong All Day ;)

Dave reminded me of this cool one...

Summer breeze- Seals & Croft

In the evening on a Friday night

A little light a-shining through the window

Lets me know everythings alright

Summer breeze makes me feel fine

Blowing through the jasmine in my mind

Summer breeze makes me feel fine

Blowing through the jasmine in my mind

See the paper lying on the sidewalk

A little music from the house next door

So I walk on up to the door step

Through the screen and across the floor

Summer breeze makes me feel fine

Blowing through the jasmine in my mind

Summer breeze makes me feel fine

Blowing through the jasmine in my mind

Sweet days of summer, the jasmine's in bloom

July is dressed up and playing her tune

When I come home from a hard days work

And you're waiting there, not a care in the world

See the smile a-waiting in the kitchen

Food cooking and the plates for two

Feel the arms that reach out to hold me

In the evening when the day is through

This is an EXCELLENT thread......

Here's a contribution from me.....

Angel – Sarah McLachlan

Spend all your time waiting for that second chance

For the break that will make it okay

There's always some reason to feel not good enough

And it's hard at the end of the day

I need some distraction oh beautiful release

Memory seeps from my veins

Let me be empty oh and weightless and maybe

I'll find some peace tonight

In the arms of the Angel fly away from here

From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear

You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie

You're in the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here

You’re so tired of the straight line, and everywhere you turn

There's vultures and thieves at your back

The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies

That you make up for all that you lack

It don't make no difference, escaping one last time

It's easier to believe

In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness

That brings me to my knees

In the arms of the Angel fly away from here

From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear

Ah you are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie

you’re in the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here

You're in the arms of your Angel; may you find some comfort here

And another.....

Leann Rimes from the album BLUE :

THE LIGHT IN YOUR EYES

Life can take your dreams and turn them upside down

Friends will talk about you when you’re not around

Reality can really cut you down to size

But don’t ever lose that light in your eyes

Don’t ever lose that light in your eyes

People make you promises they’ll never keep

Soon you’ll know why people say that life is cheap

Life resembles one big compromise

But don’t ever lose that light in your eyes

Don’t ever lose that light in your eyes

Keep on shining, keep on smiling

Don’t lose faith and don’t lose heart

When you’re crying, just keep trying

To remind yourself you’re a shining star

Yes you are

Somewhere down the line you’ll face the judgement day

When the angels look at you what will you say

They’ve got a way of knowing who will come inside

Just let Him see that light in your eyes

Don’t ever lose the light in your eyes

Ahhhh, I have hundreds of lyrics that are beautiful....don't get me started.....

Yeah, Ally... what Sparky said! :D

I Can See Clearly- Johnny Nash

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,

I can see all obstacles in my way

Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind

It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)

Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone

All of the bad feelings have disappeared

Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin?for

It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)

Sun-Shiny day.

Look all around, there’s nothin?but blue skies

Look straight ahead, nothin?but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,

I can see all obstacles in my way

Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind

It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)

Sun-Shiny day.

Pick Yourself Up- Dorothy Fields/ Jerome Kern

Especially as sang by Nat King Cole

Nothing's impossible I have found,

For when my chin is on the ground,

I pick myself up,

Dust myself off,

Start All over again.

Don't lose your confidence if you slip,

Be grateful for a pleasant trip,

And pick yourself up,

Dust yourself off,

Start all over again.

Work like a soul inspired,

Till the battle of the day is won.

You may be sick and tired,

But you'll be a man, my son!

Will you remember the famous men,

Who had to fall to rise again?

So take a deep breath,

Pick yourself up,

Dust yourself off,

Start all over again.

Nothing's impossible I have found,

For when my chin is on the ground,

I pick myself up,

Dust myself off,

Start all over again.

Don't lose your confidence if you slip,

Be grateful for a pleasant trip,

And pick yourself up,

Dust yourself off,

Start all over again.

Work like a soul inspired,

Till the battle of the day is won.

You may be sick and tired,

But you'll be a man, my son!

Will you remember the famous men,

Who had to fall to rise again?

So take a deep breath,

Pick yourself up,

Dust yourself off,

Start all over again.

Angels :) ...........Robbie Williams

I sit and wait

does an angel contemplate my fate

and do they know

the places where we go

when we´re grey and old

´cos I´ve been told

that salvation lets their wings unfold

so when I’m lying in my bed

thoughts running through my head

and I feel that love is dead

I’m loving angels instead

and through it all she offers me protection

a lot of love and affection

whether I’m right or wrong

and down the waterfall

wherever it may take me

I know that life wont break me

when I come to call she wont forsake me

I’m loving angels instead

when I’m feeling weak

and my pain walks down a one way street

I look above

and I know ill always be blessed with love

and as the feeling grows

she breathes flesh to my bones

and when love is dead

I’m loving angels instead

and through it all she offers me protection

a lot of love and affection

whether I’m right or wrong

and down the waterfall

wherever it may take me

I know that life wont break me

when I come to call she wont forsake me

I’m loving angels instead

Music is the electrical soil

in which the spirit lives,

thinks and invents."

"Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons, and you will find that it is to the soul what the water-bath is to the body."- Oliver Wendell Holmes

Motivational Lyrics- Toadies

To get a leg up you must put your foot down

You roll your sleeve up

You put your back into it

You get your head around it

To find the fast track to enlightenment

You must cleanse your mind and body

You must get your head around it

Must get your head around it

You want to be ringside, or in there swinging

You want the grand prize

You must get your head around it

Let's get your head around it

You want the last laugh

You want the victory lap

You want the finer things

You want the brass ring

You must get your head around it

To get a leg up you must put your foot down

You roll your sleeve up

You get your head around it

Let's get your head around it...

I'm not very contemporary like the rest of you, but I do have 1350 (last count), songs from the 1950's (95%), on my computer. I've been collecting and working on them for some time now.

Patti Page, Doris Day, Teresa Brewere, Joni James - (my favorite), Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Geiselle MacKensie, Julie London, Dinah Shore and on and on. (Yes, the male vocalists also like Frankie Laine, Eddie Fisher, Don Cornell, Dean Martin, Mario Lanza, Perry Como, and on and on.

I just recently downloaded the top 30 songs for every year in the '50's, 1950 to 1959. I don't play games on the computer. It is primarily a work station for me, but when I do play a little, I go to my music. I'm just learning to burn my own CD's and make the labels and case inserts. My wife just bought me a thingy where I can put my cassettes and LP's on the computer, so I can then burn them to CD's. I have a pretty good size collection of both.

Like llyou Shane - I do like my music.......the 1950's - some 1940's and even a few 1930's, but not too many newer ones. I like the old country western also. Like the song say's, - I was country before country was cool.

Hey Jim,

Take a look. :) Not all of these are newer than what you mentioned. How 'bout Louis Armsrong, or Nat King Cole? ;) Sinatra even did "Pick Yourself Up." If I like a song, doesn't matter what year it was popular.

Cool? Cool is doin' your own thang! That makes YOU very cool, Jim. B)

Music has always been my emotional escape. Lately, things have been pretty hectic in my head and I've been battling to settle into a routine where I manage to be constructive.

These days, first thing in the morning before work, I go to where my gear is (still) set up, load a few backtracks, and sing some special songs. Only for about half an hour, and I walk away with a smile, and my day starts with a schmoozy glowy feeling in my heart. (Yeah yeah, I'm a soppy old thing.) I have no idea what the neighbours think - my PA handles a room of about 300 people, and as all good music lovers know, you have to crank the sound up so your soul can "hear" it....know what I mean? ;)

When I'm sad....I sing.

When I'm happy...I sing.

When I'm depressed...I sing.

When I am simply nowhere in my head....I sing.

And it's all good.......even if I'm not being paid to do it anymore!

:)

Keep the lyrics coming.....I adore this thread!

We have a lot in common, Ally. :)

I've always loved this one, originally sung by Nina Simone (she was a great lady! B) )...it's not inspirational, it's just nice & it reminds me of my hubby  :

My baby don’t care for shows

My baby don’t care for clothes

My baby just cares for me

My baby don’t care for cars and races

My baby don’t care for high-tone places

Liz taylor is not his style

And even lana turner’s smile

Is somethin’ he can’t see

My baby don’t care who knows

My baby just cares for me

Baby, my baby don’t care for shows

And he don’t even care for clothes

He cares for me

My baby don’t care

For cars and races

My baby don’t care for

He don’t care for high-tone places

Liz taylor is not his style

And even liberace’s smile

Is something he can’t see

Is something he can’t see

I wonder what’s wrong with baby

My baby just cares for

My baby just cares for

My baby just cares for me

Lizzie :)
