Good tunes, great vibes

I'm glad this thread has resurfaced... there are some amazing lyrics posted here!

Sam, I have a story about "The River".........

Many years ago, my town had an elementary school called "Old River School." The school was closed and torn down long ago... but a few years ago a new school was built on the same road as the old one, and we named it "Old River School" in honor of that long-ago school.

The principal of the "new" Old River School thought that "The River" would be a good school song, and she wrote to Garth Brooks' management company asking what the procedure and costs would be to use the song. She expected that there would be royalty fees involved, and that an elementary school probably wouldn't be able to afford them, but she figured it was worth asking.

Here's where the story gets interesting: a while later, she got a phone call from one of Garth's managers. He told her that he had lived in our town as a child and he had been a student at the "old" Old River School. Not only that, he informed her that Garth was happy to donate "The River" to the school, to use as the school song.

So, while there are many schools that have marches and ballads as their alma mater, one small elementary school in California has a genuine country-music classic!

Its like having a conversation with my ex. It inspires me :D

September - "Cry For You"

I never had to say goodbye

You must have known I wouldn't stay

While you were talking about our life

You killed the beauty of today

Forever and ever

Life is now or never

Forever never comes around

You never heard me break your heart

You didn't wake up when we died

Since I was lonely from the start

I think the end is mine to write

Forever and ever

Life is now or never

Forever never comes around

People love and let go

Forever and ever

Life is now or never

Forever's gonna slow you down

You'll never see me again

So now who's gonna cry for you

You'll never see me again

No matter what you do

You'll never see me again

So now who's gonna cry for you

You'll never see me again

No matter what you do

Forever and ever

Life is now or never

Forever never comes around

Forever and ever

Life is now or never

Forever never comes around

You'll never see me again

So now who's gonna cry for you

You'll never see me again

No matter what you do

You'll never see me again

So now who's gonna cry for you

You'll never see me again

No matter what you do

Forever and ever

Life is now or never

Forever never comes around

I was listening to this earlier and thought about the wonderful words. Especially the words I put in bold type.

I Am Mine

Pearl Jam

The selfish, they’re all standing in line

Faithing and hoping to buy themselves time

Me, I figure as each breath goes by

I only own my mind

The north is to south what the clock is to time

There's east and there's west and there's everywhere life

I know I was born and I know that I'll die

The in between is mine

I am mine

And the feeling, it gets left behind

All the innocence lost at one time

Significant, behind the eyes

There's no need to hide,....

We're safe tonight

The ocean is full cause everyone's crying

The full moon is looking for friends at high tide

The sorrow grows bigger when the sorrow's denied

I only know my mind

I am mine

And the meaning, it gets left behind

All the innocents lost at one time

Significant, behind the eyes

There's no need to hide,....

We're safe tonight

And the feelings that get left behind

All the innocence broken with lies

Significance, between the lines

We may need to hide

And the meanings that get left behind

All the innocents lost at one time

We're all different behind the eyes

There's no need to hide

Another happy little song... :D

Daydream

Written By John Sebastian

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What a day for a daydream

What a day for a daydreamin' boy

And I'm lost in a daydream

Dreamin' bout my bundle of joy

And even if time ain't really on my side

It's one of those days for takin' a

walk outside

I'm blowin' the day to take a walk

in the sun

And fall on my face on somebody's

new mowed lawn

I've been havin' a sweet dream

I've been dreamin' since I woke up

today

It's starred me and my sweet dream

'Cause she's the one makes me feel

this way

And even if time is passin' me by a lot

I couldn't care less about the dues you

say I got

Tomorrow I'll pay the dues for droppin'

my load

A pie in the face for bein' a sleepy

bull toad

And you can be sure that if you're

feelin' right

A daydream will last a long into

the night

Tomorrow at breakfast you may pick

up your ears

Or you may be daydreamin' for a

thousand years

What a day for a daydream

Custom made for a daydreamin' boy

And I'm lost in a daydream

Dreamin' 'bout my bundle of joy

This one comes from the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" Haven't seen it yet, but think I should, soon.

Me thinks Ally will be familiar with this one?... ;)

I Need To Wake Up- Mellisa Etheridge

Have I been sleeping?

I've been so still

Afraid of crumbling

Have I been careless?

Dismissing all the distant rumblings

Take me where I am supposed to be

To comprehend the things that I can't see

Cause I need to move

I need to wake up

I need to change

I need to shake up

I need to speak out

Something's got to break up

I've been asleep

And I need to wake up

Now

And as a child

I danced like it was 1999

My dreams were wild

The promise of this new world

Would be mine

Now I am throwing off the carelessness of youth

To listen to an inconvenient truth

That I need to move

I need to wake up

I need to change

I need to shake up

I need to speak out

Something's got to break up

I've been asleep

And I need to wake up

Now

I am not an island

I am not alone

I am my intentions

Trapped here in this flesh and bone

And I need to move

I need to wake up

I need to change

I need to shake up

I need to speak out

Something's got to break up

I've been asleep

And I need to wake up

Now

I want to change

I need to shake up

I need to speak out

Oh, Something's got to break up

I've been asleep

And I need to wake up

Now

Shane, "Daydream" brings back some good memories.

On The Turning Away - Pink Floyd

On the turning away from the pale and downtrodden

And the words they say which we won't understand

I Don't accept that what's happening is just a case of other's suffering

Or you'll find that you're joining in the turning away.

It's a sin that somehow light is changing to shadow

And casting its shroud over all we have known

Unaware how the ranks have grown driven on by a heart of stone

We could find that we're all alone in the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night as the daytime is stirring

Where the speechless unite in a silent accord

Using words you will find are strange, mesmerized as they light the flame

Feel the new wind of change on the wings of the night

No more turning away from the weak and the weary

No more turning away from the coldness inside

Just a world that we all must share, it's not enough just to stand and stare

Is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?

Now I know what he means.

Nobody Told Me

John Lennon

Everybody's talking and no one says a word

Everybody's making love and no one really cares

There's Nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs

Always something happening and nothing going on

There's always something cooking and nothing in the pot

They're starving back in China so finish what you got

Nobody told me there'd be days like these

Nobody told me there'd be days like these

Nobody told me there'd be days like these

Strange days indeed -- strange days indeed

Everybody's runnin' and no one makes a move

Everyone's a winner and nothing left to lose

There's a little yellow idol to the north of Katmandu

Everybody's flying and no one leaves the ground

Everybody's crying and no one makes a sound

There's a place for us in the movies you just gotta lay around

Nobody told me there'd be days like these

Nobody told me there'd be days like these

Nobody told me there'd be days like these

Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama

Everybody's smoking and no one's getting high

Everybody's flying and never touch the sky

There's a UFO over New York and I ain't too surprised

Nobody told me there'd be days like these

Nobody told me there'd be days like these

Nobody told me there'd be days like these

Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama

Bill Withers - Lean On Me

Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow.

But if we are wise, we know that there's always tomorrow.

Lean on me, when you're not strong and I'll be your friend.

I'll help you carry on, for it won't be long 'til I'm gonna need somebody

to lean on.

Please swallow your pride, if have things you need to borrow.

For no one can fill those needs that you won't let show.

You just call on me brother when you need a hand.

We all need somebody to lean on.

I just might have a problem that you'll understand.

We all need somebody to lean on.

Lean on me when you't not strong, and I'll be your friend.

I'll help you carry on, for it won't be long 'til I'm gonna' need

somebody to lean on.

You just call on me brother if you need a friend.

We all need somebody to lean on.

I just might have a problem that you'll understand.

We all need somebody to lean on.

If there is a load you have to bear that you can't carry.

I'm right up the road, I'll share your load if you just call me.

Call me ( if you need a friend)

Call me

This guy is my favorite of the "newer" singer/songwriters. I listened to a live version of this song a while back and he introduced it ..."when you're a kid and you get hit in the nuts with a tennis ball  , it sure is great when it stops hurting. This song is about being messed up, but coming out of it." (or something like that)

JOHN MAYER

"In Repair"

Too many shadows in my room

Too many hours in this midnight

Too many corners in my mind

So much to do to set my heart right

Oh it's taking so long i could be wrong, i could be ready

Oh but if i take my heart's advice

I should assume it's still unsteady

I am in repair, i am in repair

Stood on the corner for a while

To wait for the wind to blow down on me

Hoping it takes with it my old ways

And brings some brand new look upon me

Oh it's taking so long i could be wrong, i could be ready

Oh but if i take my heart's advice

I should assume it's still unsteady

I am in repair, i am in repair

And now i'm walking in a park

All of the birds they dance below me

Maybe when things turn green again

It will be good to say you know me

Oh it's taking so long i could be wrong, i could be ready

Oh but if i take my heart's advice

I should assume it's still unready

Oh i'm never really ready, i'm never really ready

I'm in repair, i
