Many years ago, my town had an elementary school called "Old River School." The school was closed and torn down long ago... but a few years ago a new school was built on the same road as the old one, and we named it "Old River School" in honor of that long-ago school. The principal of the "new" Old River School thought that "The River" would be a good school song, and she wrote to Garth Brooks' management company asking what the procedure and costs would be to use the song. She expected that there would be royalty fees involved, and that an elementary school probably wouldn't be able to afford them, but she figured it was worth asking. Here's where the story gets interesting: a while later, she got a phone call from one of Garth's managers. He told her that he had lived in our town as a child and he had been a student at the "old" Old River School. Not only that, he informed her that Garth was happy to donate "The River" to the school, to use as the school song. So, while there are many schools that have marches and ballads as their alma mater, one small elementary school in California has a genuine country-music classic!
